Your aftercare guide

Luxury hair, made to last.

You've just invested in smoother, healthier, more beautiful hair. With the right care at home, those results can last up to eight months, depending on your hair type. This guide covers everything you need to know to protect your treatment, so you can enjoy faster styling, beautiful hair and effortless mornings, every day.

Your first wash

Unlike traditional chemical and keratin straightening, nanoplasty has no waiting period. You can wash your hair straight after your appointment. Some clients like to wait 24 hours to let everything settle, and that is fine too.

  1. Rinse thoroughly with water only, no shampoo, until the water runs clear.
  2. Apply a deep hydration mask straight away. We have these in salon.
  3. Warm a damp hair turban in the microwave for 1 minute and wear it over the mask for 10 to 15 minutes.
  4. Rinse the mask out thoroughly. It has done its work by then, and any product left behind only weighs your hair down.
  5. Apply heat protection spray and a small amount of serum.
  6. Blow-dry until your hair is 100% dry. This first blow-dry reactivates the treatment and smooths the cuticle.

Why heat matters

Your hair's shape is held by two kinds of bonds: strong ones that are permanent, and softer ones that reset every time your hair gets wet.

Traditional chemical straightening breaks the strong bonds, which is why it is permanent and also why it is harsh on the hair. Nanoplasty leaves them largely intact. It relaxes your natural pattern and uses heat to lock the smoothness in.

That is why your blow-dry matters. As your hair dries, the softer bonds set in whatever shape it is in. Blow-dry it smooth and it stays smooth. Air-dry it and some of your natural wave or curl may show, depending on your hair type. Either way, it will be softer and far less frizzy than before.

Habits that make it last

  • Wash your hair 2 to 3 times a week, not daily.
  • Ideally, use a sulphate-free, sodium-free, hydrating shampoo and conditioner.
  • Sleep on a silk pillowcase, or use a silk scrunchie or bonnet overnight.
  • For the first few days, avoid tight ponytails, claw clips and sleeping with wet hair. They can leave dents and kinks.
  • Skip keratin-heavy smoothing products. Extra keratin can make treated hair rigid and brittle, especially if it is fine, coloured or previously damaged.

A word on sulphates. Sulphates are not bad for your hair. They are simply strong cleansers, and it is overuse that causes the problem: wash after wash, they strip your natural oils and wear a smoothing treatment down faster. That is why we always recommend sulphate-free as a general rule. The occasional wash with a regular shampoo will not undo your nanoplasty.

Three products do the work

These are what keep your result looking the way it did when you left the salon.

Heat protection

Every time you wash and blow-dry

Because nanoplasty is heat-activated, the dryer is what brings your smoothest finish back after each wash. That also means your hair meets heat regularly. A heat protectant leaves a light film on the hair that slows how fast heat gets in and helps the hair hold onto its moisture, which reduces the dryness and breakage that repeated heat causes over time.

Spray through damp hair before the dryer, and again on dry hair before a straightener or curling tool.

Serum

Every time you wash and blow-dry

A serum smooths and seals the outer layer of the hair, reduces friction between strands and helps keep humidity out, which is what causes frizz in the first place. It is also what gives you the shine.

One to two pumps through the mid-lengths and ends on damp hair before you dry, then a touch on the ends to finish. Keep it away from your roots.

Mask

Any time your hair feels lifeless

Hair that feels flat, dry, rough or dull is short on moisture. Swap your conditioner for a hydrating mask that wash: mid-lengths and ends, leave it for 10 to 15 minutes, then rinse thoroughly.

For most people that works out to about once a week, and more often after swimming, sun or a colour appointment. Choose a hydrating mask, not a keratin or protein-heavy one.

What to expect for your hair type

Nanoplasty is a straightening and smoothing system. How close to fully straight you get depends on your natural curl pattern, the condition of your hair and its colour history. Find yours below.

Frizzy, with a wave or looser curl

Full treatment: around 6 months
Blow-dried
Sleek and straight. Hair in good condition is often 80 to 100% straight after one treatment.
Air-dried
Soft and smooth with a relaxed bend and very little frizz.
Good to know
This is the most wash-and-go result of any hair type.

Defined curls, including 3C

Regrowth: 3 to 5 months
Blow-dried
Smooth, with body and movement, in a fraction of your usual styling time.
Air-dried
A looser, softer curl or wave without the frizz.
Good to know
Heat gives you the straightest finish. Each treatment builds on the last, so your second and third results are usually smoother than your first.

Tightly coiled, including 4C

Regrowth: 3 months
Blow-dried
Much straighter, with far less volume, shrinkage and frizz, and a much quicker blow-dry.
Air-dried
A softened, stretched texture, not a straight one.
Good to know
Results build over consecutive treatments. New growth comes through in its natural pattern and shows early, which is why your maintenance is at three months.

Thick, coarse or resistant

Blow-dried
Often the most dramatic change. Healthy, uncoloured coarse hair tends to take the strongest straightening.
Air-dried
Smooth, with noticeably less bulk.
Good to know
Your blow-dry takes longer than most, so heat protection matters most for you. Mask weekly.

Fine and ultra-fine hair

Blow-dried
Smooth and soft, with far less frizz.
Air-dried
Smooth, with a soft natural bend.
Good to know
Ultra-fine hair is delicate, so we treat it with gentler heat to protect it. That can mean it does not come out fully straight the first time, and a completely straight result may take more than one treatment to build. At home, go light: keep serum and mask to the ends only so your hair is not weighed down.

Bleached, highlighted or fragile

Blow-dried
Soft, controlled and smooth.
Air-dried
Minimal frizz, with some natural shape.
Good to know
Bleached hair is more fragile, so we straighten it at a lower temperature with more passes. That protects your hair and is why blonde appointments take longer. Your first treatment puts the health of your hair ahead of maximum straightness, and straighter results usually build by your second or third treatment as condition improves.

What can be normal in the first few washes

You may notice none of these, or a couple. They are temporary.

  • A faint scent when your hair is wet. It disappears once your hair is dry and usually fades within a few washes.
  • Roots that feel oilier than usual for the first wash or two. Smoother strands let your natural oil travel down the hair faster. It settles.
  • A little dryness along your part line, from the deep cleanse and the heat used during your treatment.
  • A slight shift in colour. Blondes can turn a touch creamier and coloured brunettes can lift slightly and show some warmth. A toner or colour refresh after your treatment corrects it. See the colour section below.

Maintaining your nanoplasty

Nanoplasty and straightening systems can last up to 8 months, depending on your hair type. That is how long your treated hair stays smooth. Your new growth is different: it comes through in your natural texture, so your roots need attention well before your lengths do.

These are the timeframes we recommend for your next appointment.

3 months

4C and tightly coiled hair

A regrowth appointment. Your new growth shows early, so three months keeps your roots and lengths matching.

3–5 months

Defined curls, including 3C

A regrowth appointment. The tighter your curl, the closer to three months you will want to come back. We will tell you where you sit in that range.

6 months

Frizzy hair with a looser curl

A full treatment. Looser textures blend softly as they grow out, so six months is the recommended gap before your next one.

Not sure which one you are? We will confirm your timing at your appointment.

Book your next appointment before you leave

The simplest way to keep your result seamless is to lock in your next date while you are still in the salon. It guarantees your spot, and we will thank you for it.

  • Rebook on the day: a complimentary full-size mask or heat protection spray, yours to collect at your next appointment.
  • Rebook within 7 days: a complimentary hair turban at your next appointment.
  • Either way: today's price is locked in for that appointment.

Rewards are collected at your next appointment and apply when it is kept within your recommended timeframe. If your plans change, message us and we will move it.

Your first appointment is your longest

Your first visit is always a full treatment. Every strand, from root to tip, is cleansed, treated, processed and sealed with heat, section by section. That is why it takes the most time.

A regrowth appointment is shorter. We treat your new growth, overlap about an inch onto the hair we treated last time so there is no gap, then run the remaining product through your ends for a gentle top-up. With less hair to fully treat, process and seal, the appointment is quicker and costs $100 less than our standard full treatment price for your hair length and density on the day. It is based on our standard prices, not on any offer applied to an earlier visit.

Regrowth appointments are for clients on a 3 month or 3 to 5 month schedule. If your recommended timeframe is around 6 months, your next appointment is a full treatment. The same applies if a regrowth is left longer than recommended, because by then there is too much new growth to treat as a regrowth.

Between appointments

  • Heat protection and serum every time you wash and blow-dry.
  • A hydrating mask whenever your hair feels lifeless.
  • Ideally a sulphate-free shampoo, 2 to 3 washes a week.
  • Rinse with fresh water straight after the pool or the beach.
  • Silk at night.
  • In the weeks before your next appointment, avoid coconut oil, heavy oils and coating products. Build-up stops the treatment getting into the hair.

Swimming, sun, salt and chlorine

All fine after nanoplasty. Salt water, chlorine and UV can shorten your results, though, if your hair is not protected.

Before you swim

  • Wet your hair with fresh water first. Hair that is already saturated absorbs less chlorine and salt.
  • Apply a leave-in or heat protectant spray, then a little serum through the mid-lengths and ends.
  • Braid loosely or tie back with a silk scrunchie. Nothing tight.

After you swim

  • Rinse with fresh water straight away.
  • Follow with a hydrating conditioner or mask as soon as you can.
  • If you swim often, use a hydration mask once or twice a week.

Skip heavy oils such as coconut oil before swimming. They can trap minerals in the hair and add to build-up over time.

Colouring after nanoplasty

Colouring over nanoplasty is fine when it is done with care. If you see a hairdresser for colour, balayage or toning, please share this page with them.

Timing

  • Global colour: wait 2 to 5 days, or same day if your hair is very healthy.
  • Within 1 to 2 weeks: use 10 vol developer. It is gentler while the cuticle settles.
  • After 2 weeks: 20 vol developer is fine, especially for grey coverage.
  • Highlights and balayage: wait at least 2 to 3 weeks.

For your hairdresser

  • Watch processing times. Colour can develop faster on nanoplasty-treated hair. Check earlier than you normally would.
  • Use lower volume where you can. It reduces unnecessary stress on the hair in the weeks after treatment.
  • Avoid overlapping onto treated lengths. Keep colour on regrowth to protect the integrity of the treated hair.
  • Add a bond builder. Olaplex, Wellaplex or similar during colour services protects the structure of the hair.
  • Finish with a hydrating mask. Restoring moisture after colour helps the smoothness last.
  • Take care with heat. If flat ironing after colour, make sure the hair is fully dry and use a heat protectant.

Colour quality

  • Always use salon-grade colour from a professional supplier.
  • Avoid supermarket box dyes. Their developer strength is unpredictable and can compromise the treatment.

A note on hair integrity. Nanoplasty strengthens and smooths the hair, but colour, heat and chemical services still add up over time. Space your services thoughtfully and keep your hair well hydrated between appointments.

Questions we hear most

Will my hair be 100% straight after one treatment?

For some clients, yes. For others, the first treatment gets you most of the way and the next ones build on it. Fine to medium hair in good condition is often 80 to 100% straight after one session when blow-dried. Coarse, tightly curled or damaged hair may need more than one treatment for a fully sleek finish. We will always tell you honestly what is achievable for your hair before we start.

Why does my hair look straighter when I blow-dry it?

Nanoplasty smooths your hair without breaking its strongest bonds, so heat is what locks the smoothness in. As your hair dries, it sets in the shape it is in. Blow-dried, that is sleek. Air-dried, it is still soft and low-frizz, but more of your natural texture shows.

How long will it last?

Nanoplasty and straightening systems can last up to 8 months, depending on your hair type and how well you follow your aftercare. It is semi-permanent and grows out gradually.

Your new growth comes through in your natural texture, though, so we recommend coming back before then: around 3 months for 4C and tightly coiled hair, 3 to 5 months for defined curls, and around 6 months for frizzy hair with a looser curl. Visits at 3 to 5 months are regrowth appointments, which are quicker and cost $100 less. At around 6 months, it is a full treatment.

Can I use keratin smoothing products at home?

No. Your hair is already smoothed and strengthened. Adding more keratin can make it rigid and brittle over time, especially if it is fine, coloured or previously treated.

What if my result is not as smooth as I expected?

Nanoplasty works by getting into the hair and bonding with heat. If there was product build-up on your hair, such as coconut oil, heavy masks or silicone-based products, it can act as a barrier and limit how well the treatment takes. These coatings can take several washes or weeks to break down, and a second session may be needed. Message us and we will work out the best next step.

Can I still curl my hair?

Yes. Your hair will hold a curl from a hot tool. Use heat protection first, as always.

Sulphate-free shampoo, heat protection and serum every wash, a mask when your hair asks for it, and silk at night.

That is all it takes.
